Countering the threatThere is no one organisation to which people in the UK can report all Internet based crime. There are a number of organisations that claim that they do this but in fact do not, these include NHTCU, Police Forces, the Home Office, ICC etc. For whatever reason, business and individuals do not like to report that they have been scammed, many of them fear a police investigation. As is said in management consultancy: · 'If you can't see it, you can't measure it, · If you can't measure it, you can't manage it; · If you can't manage it you can't control it'. Without the ability to measure, with a fair degree of accuracy and robustness, the scale of the problem it is impossible to devote the resources necessary to address financial or any other crime on the Internet. The FBI advised that they did offer to run the IFCC in the UK for the government free of charge, but this was turned down |
