At the same time as these increases in Internet use and users are seen, then the opportunity for any potential financial (or other) crime that can be perpetrated using the Internet as a medium will also be increasing so long as there is a motive. As with almost all crime there is the need for:

·         Motive;

·         Means;

·         Opportunity.

The Internet can provide the latter two so long as the motive exists.

For the sake of simplicity and specifically for the purpose of this dissertation, there are two different categories of case examined here:

·         Direct Losses

·         Indirect Losses
