Sources of the Law

There is not a written constitution in the jurisdiction of England and Wales, i.e. there is no single document setting out the fundamental legal system in England and Wales.

The Courts have looked to many sources in determining how the law applies to the facts in question (or even how it applies to the facts in a hypothetical question). The major sources are set out as follows:
